Dubai Police seized 9,886 bicycles in the beyond 10 months for abusing traffic laws and endangering the lives of road users, it said on Tuesday.
Violations including cycling for fast streets and riding the other way of the traffic stream.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Traffic Department at Dubai Police, said the violators were endangering their lives and the lives of other road users by crossing the roads in a dangerous manner.
Police traffic patrols dispatched a campaign across Deira and Bur Dubai regions to lessen passings and wounds brought about by bicycle related accidents.
“Bicycle related accidents can be lethal, particularly when they ride their bikes in the contradicting heading of traffic or wildly go across roads. Notwithstanding our mindfulness crusades a few cyclists abuse transit regulations and imperil their lives and others by cycling on asphalts in commercial markets and thin narrow alleys,” Brig Al Mazroui said.
Rules for cyclists
He encouraged cyclists to adhere to traffic guidelines that are set up to guarantee their security and save the existences of all street clients. He called upon cyclists to wear properly fitted bicycle helmet and a high visibility vest and never ride against traffic.
”Cyclists should stop at red lights, be cautious at convergences, and consistently walk their bikes across a bustling crossing point using crosswalks and following traffic signals,” he added.
