Dubai RTA launches trial run of two electric buses

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has dispatched a trial run of two Volvo 7900 electric buses.

The two buses will carry on a particular way in the two ways between La Mer South, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street and Al Sufouh Tram Station.

The two buses are fitted with Opportunity Charging technology, which is being utilized without precedent for Dubai.

Buses are charged by a standing electric charger provided by ABB Group at La Mer South. A night electric charger is given at Al Quoz Bus Depot to run the late evening charging when the two buses are unavailable.

Hence, the buses can be electrically charged either through Pantograph utilizing a standing arm under which the transport is left at La Mer, or cables associating direct and alternate currents (DC and AC).

The dispatch of these trial runs is being facilitated with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Volvo Bus Company, Meraas Real Estate, and ABB Group.
